what is love?

What is love? love is true & honest... it’s looking into someone’s eyes & seeing the best of  them – seeing their (good) soul right in front of us... it’s knowing that they’re our friend, teacher, lover & soul mate. Love is right now, but it’s never only right now.... it’s tomorrow & the day after that – it’s continuous... love flows through us & lives longer than we do... it’s our legacy.

Talented Musician Search - part 5 - Reggie Watts

OMG…talented, dumfounded, hilarious, creative genius, nut job, exhausting, off color, intrinsic, intellect, homeboy, soul brotha’… One word REALLY can’t describe Reggie. He is part musician, part comedian, part innovator & improviser… his antics are anything but ordinary. One moment he’s using a loop station to layer his beat boxing & background vocals, another he’s literally walking off the stage to ask his girlfriend why she left the audience (all scripted of course, but who the hell would actually think it out & then do it live)? His creative mind will inspire you & possibly frustrate you unforgettably while watching his performance. Some will not regard him as a musician, but w/o musical talent, his performances would simply not be possible… others might not regard him as a true comedian, but he makes me laugh & shake my head constantly… he is different. Pushing the envelope as he does will make you think about innovation & entertainment differently. Physically, Reggie is as he acts… part country boy, part soul brother, part elitist-nerd-intellect, all wrapped up into one interesting human being.

"There's no one out there like Reggie… covers everything from ancient history & racism to pop-culture, in a heady mix of improvised music, comedy & social insight. This guy has to be seen to be believed. Truly awesome!" –Time Out London

"Reggie Watts is a most unusual talent: a huge vocal range, a natural musicality & a sidesplitting wit. Is he a comedian? A singer? A performance artist? I've seen him a few times since then & I still can't decide." – Brian Eno

Talented Musician Search - part 4 - Manu Delago

Every few months (online), I stumble upon a fantastic musician – someone who completely blows my mind & helps me to see music in a new light. Scott McKeon (blues guitarist) & Yuri Lane (beat box harmonica) were the last two to seriously catch my eye. This time it’s Manu Delago http://www.manudelago.com He gained notoriety from his Hang Drum videos on YouTube > you gotta’ see it (even if percussion isn’t your thing). Manu’s also one half of a group called “Living Room” which features his counterpart Christophauer on bass clarinet (& various other instruments) The two are fantastic together – a truly dynamic duo. They were even invited by Tom Morris, London symphony orchestra violinist, to take part in a special chamber music piece w/ “some of London’s finest string players”. Describing Manu’s music is simple – it’s creative, fun & inspiring. I recommend the following clip which includes narration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez82j06Zs-4&feature=PlayList&p=64EF942F1DA3E5B0&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=5

10 years strong & still growing

A friend of mine recently asked what’s my “secret”? - to being happily married for ten years.

The week after I graduated from Berklee (in 2000) I was reciting wedding vows in CT. The “secret” is simple – I married my best friend. I loved her, cared for her & knew her extremely well before I ever asked for her hand (I’d known her for six years). I knew what I was getting into & I wanted this life.

An old man once told me, the most important decision I’d ever make, is choosing who I’d marry… he was right. That decision has effected almost every other one in a positive way.

Talented Musician Search - part 3 - Manu Katché

I’ve never been a “drummers' drummer”. I’ve always thought of myself as a musician first & foremost. I love groovin' to music... adding & embellishing.... collaborating w/ others... but, truth be told, drum solos have never really impressed me all that much... that is, unless it's a solo by a Master Drummer. I’ve seen Jeff "Tain" Watts play live a few times as well as Tony Williams & Elvin Jones & Lewis Nash … & so on... I love Carter Beauford's live embelishments... Another master & global drummer I've been aware of for 20 yrs is Manu Katche'. He's performed w/ peter Gabriel & Sting – just to name two! He's what I call a Musical Master Drummer.

I reccomend the following Vimeo clip of Manu's most recent release > They must have used a RED Camera > The picture is beautiful!!!  http://vimeo.com/11419890 You can also check him out @ Drummerworld.com

I hope you enjoy. Feel free to subscribe.

"When Sons Rise" Recording

The Mike Greca Band just wrapped up it's 2nd studio recording entitled "When Sons Rise". Our friend & multi-talented Alan Veniscofsky is currently producing the album @ Telefunken Recording Studios in South Windsor, CT.

Afterwards, Mike said he was "astonished at the ease w/ which this... strangely effortless" prosess was executed. Having two Berklee graduates on hand didn't hurt - LOL!!!
